MIMIKA - Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe believe that Jakarta will extend contract mining company PT Freeport Indonesia, due to consider many things, especially the economic dependence of the people of Papua.

"I think sooner or later the government will surely extend the contract of PT Freeport. It is complicated and must be seen from various aspects. If closed, who want to work here. I am sure it would be extended, only time whether now or later, that we do not know," said Lukas in Tembagapura, Mimika, Wednesday (2/12).

He acknowledged that problems continued contract by PT Freeport is now the sexy issue. Apart from the question broke down many circles, according to Lukas, Papua economy is still heavily dependent on the mining sector, PT Freeport.

"We must honestly admit that the economy of Papua is still largely dependent on the mining sector. Freeport accounted for 46 percent of gross domestic income Papua province. While the Mimika nearly 91 percent of its revenue depends on Freeport," said Lukas again.

Under these conditions, according to him again, no one can imagine what would happen to the people of Papua Province, particularly the people of Mimika if Freeport stopped operating.

"Imagine if Freeport's contract was not renewed. Not to mention we had a native Papuan employees working in Freeport there are about 7,700 people. If certainty of Freeport's contract were not immediately provided by the government, then it will certainly have an impact on the economy of Papua," he said anyway.

Lukas remind Jakarta so that in terms of the discussion of the continuation or extension of the contract of PT Freeport must engage and involve the Government of Papua Province as has the area where Freeport operates.

"If the central government wants extended, tell it to us. We hope the government will soon provide certainty to Freeport. Not like now. Please Mr. President really see it clearly," he said.
